Displacement / Reinvention

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut bibendum tortor sit amet ligula rutrum, at porta tortor convallis ...

This piece is a meditation on the act of migration.

A person’s identity is constructed and carved on many transcendent pillars: your home, your friends, your pets, your neighbourhood, your favourite tools, your career etc. These pillars pivot from a central axis, a core, essence or soul if you will.

Migration forces a reconfiguration. It provokes an identity displacement. It frees space to carve some more. It helps you discover new inner spaces that you never knew you had or were hidden or inaccessible. While some of the other pillars are left behind while others are transported, shifting their position around the core of one's self.

This piece invites the viewer to touch, play and explore the wood beams. When isolated each beam makes little sense, when combined, the analogy takes shape.

Love the new artwork in my office and living room. It lifts us up everyday, acts as a conversation piece in Zoom calls, and we love the most being able to support artists in our communities as well.
